What Telegram Premium actually gives you

Short answer: Premium changes four things — how big a file you can send (4 GB instead of 2 GB), whether you see ads in public channels, how much you can personalise your account, and how many chats, channels and folders you can keep. Two of those genuinely change what the app can do; the rest is comfort. Below is the complete list, honestly sorted.

Files and media — the features that actually change your workflow

• 4 GB per file. Double the standard 2 GB limit. This is the difference between sending a full video project and splitting it into archives.
• No download speed limit. Free accounts get throttled on large downloads; Premium does not. On a fast connection the gap is dramatic.
• Faster video streaming and quicker start on large media files.
• Voice-to-text transcription. Convert a voice message into readable text — useful when you cannot listen, and for searching back through long voice threads.
• Real-time chat translation. Translate an entire conversation, not just a single message, with one tap.

Reading and chats

• No sponsored messages in public channels.
• Double limits across the board — up to 1,000 channels, 30 chat folders with 200 chats each, 10 pinned chats, 20 public usernames, 4 accounts on one device.
• Last seen and read receipts you can hide while still seeing others'.
• Message auto-delete timer set globally across all chats.
• Advanced chat management — auto-archive and mute for new chats from people not in your contacts.
• Longer captions (up to 4,096 characters) and a longer bio.

Personalisation

• Premium badge next to your name.
• Animated profile video instead of a static photo, shown everywhere your avatar appears.
• Custom emoji — use any emoji pack in messages and in your name.
• Exclusive stickers and reactions, including additional reaction slots on a single message.
• Unique app icons on the home screen.
• Custom chat wallpapers you can set for one specific conversation, visible to both sides.
• Name colour and profile background as a collectible look.

Channels and business

• Telegram Business is included — business profile with address and map, opening hours, greeting and away messages, quick replies, and chatbot links.
• Channel boosts. A Premium account can boost channels, helping them unlock story posting and custom reactions. This is why channel owners run Premium giveaways.
• Stories with extended posting options and priority uploads.

Three things Premium does not do

Worth saying plainly, because these come up constantly:

• It does not add storage. Telegram storage is already unlimited for every account. Premium raises the per-file size limit; it does not give you more space.
• It does not remove channel owners' own promotional posts. Only Telegram's sponsored messages disappear. A channel that posts adverts as normal content will keep doing so.

So is it worth it?

A straightforward test: if you have ever had to compress a file, split an archive, or wait out a throttled download, Premium pays for itself in saved time. If you mostly read channels and chat, the ad removal and doubled limits are pleasant but not transformative — and you might get more value from Stars instead, which is what you actually spend inside channels and bots.
